re: reactions to the recent b.e.t. awards
question: after all these years, why do we still expect b.e.t. to do the right thing? and please don’t get me wrong. i’m not being facetious at all. i’m asking sincerely. are we really that gullible naive hopeful?
(in my very own jaded opinion) the execs over at b.e.t have never even come close to hitting the mark. since its inception (long before viacom stepped in), the channel has done nothing but disappoint. every other day/month/year, it seems that we are pissed off about something they’ve done. again, these are my own personal opinions. but like my grandmother used say, “if it aint one thing it’s another.”
i can recall a time when people were in an uproar because it seemed as if the network only hired “light-skinned” people as vj’s, news anchors, and hosts. (wow…i think i just showed my age by using the term “vj” (shout out to donnie simpson) and for recalling a time when b.e.t actually had news programming. scary.) there was the whole “cita’s world controversy”. then came the debacle that was “hot ghetto mess”. and please let’s not forget the time tavis got let go so that the station could make room for more music video programs. and now…the mishandled mj tribute.
i’m telling you, i just don’t get it. well…that’s not altogether true. actually, i take that back. i do get it (i think). it appears to me that somehow we are still collectively holding out for the big day when the “for us (no longer) by us” network finally delivers.
guess what? never going to happen!!! or at least, i don’t foresee it ever happening.
so i guess what i am saying is…why bother? wouldn’t it just save us all a whole bunch of time and frustration if we all just stop looking to these people for….hell…i don’t know…a little decency and common sense? let it go. exhale. move on.
you know what they say, “blessed is the man who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed.”
i’m just saying.
